Cryptician stores as little as it can, and never a password. Here is exactly what it keeps and why.

If you never sign in

Nothing about you leaves your device. Your progress, streak and settings live in your browser’s storage. Clear it and they are gone.

If you sign in with Google

Google tells us your name, email address and profile picture. We store those three things, your solving progress per day (so your streak follows you between devices), and nothing else from Google. We never see or store a password: signing in happens on Google’s side. Sessions are records in our database, which means we can end them.

On the ranking, other solvers see your first name and last initial. Your email is never shown to anyone.

Feedback

What you write in the feedback forms is stored as text and read by the setter. If you add an email address it is used only to reply to you about that message.

Where it lives

In a managed database in Google Cloud’s Netherlands region, encrypted at rest, with daily backups, reachable only by the app through a locked-down account. Secrets are kept in a secrets manager, not in code. There is no advertising and no analytics tracker.

Your data, your call

Signed in, you can download everything we hold about you or delete your account from the account menu (top right). Deletion is immediate and permanent: your progress and streak go with it.
